Broomhills Primary School, Edinburgh

Broomhills Primary School, Edinburgh

Client: City of Edinburgh Council
Architect: Holmes Miller
Cost: £12.5m

Broomhills Primary School for the City of Edinburgh Council is the first of 3 new primary schools being delivered for the city of Edinburgh Council by WRD. The school is currently a 2 stream school with potential for it being updated to a three stream school. The school is being constructed adjacent to a new housing estate being delivered by a private developer and WRD have worked alongside the developer to deliver the civil infrastructure portion of the site.

The school is a two storey steel frame construction with shallow foundations with a steel roof construction to reflect the Pentland Hills. This project has been delivered through BIM from the outset and has allowed WRD, along with the architect and M&E designer to coordinate from an early stage the various requirements of the team players. WRD have also been responsible for attaining permission from Scottish Water for the drainage connection. One of the key benefits of this stream of primary schools is that we have been able to learn and apply lessons from this school on the two other schools we are delivering for City of Edinburgh Council. We have a good relationship with the client and are proactively developing the other two schools to completion.
