The 44 York Place project comprises a comprehensive conversion of an existing 1970’s office building which is located within the setting of listed buildings and is in the Edinburgh New Town Conservation Area. Will Rudd Davidson were commissioned as structural engineers for the refurbishment which would convert the existing 5 storey office building into a 127 bedroom hotel for Premier Inn.  The structural works are complete and the hotel is due to open soon.

The works included the down taking of the upper steel frame storey and erection of a new steel frame with no internal columns allowing for the best use of available space. The existing reinforced concrete shell was retained but its external facade was removed back to the main frame. Remedial works were carried out to the primary frame of the building to enhance the buildings design life. The building is clad is natural stone, zinc panels and full height glazing. Internal alterations include the construction of 3no. lift shafts and a new stairwell.
