Thistle Phase II, Edinburgh

Thistle Phase II, Edinburgh

Client: Places for People
Architect: Smith Scott Mullan
Cost: £6.4m

A 73 unit residential development of two 4 storey houses and apartments.

The drainage discharge was designed to connect into the existing sewers in Greendykes Road. These were consented over 10 years ago as part of the PARC/EDI Craigmillar Regeneration and we worked with EDI to ascertain design parameters to comply with the original consent and ensure they were still agreeable to Scottish Water.

Underground storm water attenuation of 200m3 capacity was designed to be accommodated in deep stone filled areas under car parking, a more economic solution than a concrete structure. Consent to this approach was obtained from CEC Highways and a Section 7 Agreement is proposed between City of Edinburgh Council and Scottish Water to identify the shared maintenance responsibilities of the assets constructed. Utility routes had to be carefully coordinated with the drainage assets and dedicated routes designed through areas of porous paving.
